Gerard (Jerry) M. La Forgia
Gerard La Forgia is the Chief Technical Officer of Aceso Global, a non-profit corporation that works with hospitals in developing countries to improve their performance and strengthen their integration with the broader health care system. He was formerly the World Bank’s lead health specialist in China, Vietnam, India, Brazil and Central America. Before coming to the World Bank, he was a Research Associate at the Urban Institute and a Senior Health Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank. He has a Sc.D. degree in Health Service Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
With over 25 years of experience Dr. La Forgia has worked in over 40 countries, leading and managing health care projects and analytic work. His unique knowledge and focus on hospitals and health service delivery in Brazil, China, India and elsewhere provides him with the perspective and experience to tackle major hospital and health system changes. He has also lead World Bank strategic efforts and engagement with the most senior public officials and has designed and overseen an agenda in research, evaluation and policy analysis. He has provided technical leadership and publications in hospital management, governance and efficiency, extension of insurance coverage, service delivery reform and integrated care, public/private contracting, results-based management, health finance and health care quality improvement.
Dr. La Forgia has published books on health service delivery reform in China (2019, 2016), health insurance in India (2012), hospital performance in Brazil (2008) and health systems reforms in Central America (2005). He is also the author of number of articles and technical reports on health systems in developing countries.
