Felipe Berer

Felipe is considered a go-to trusted advisor for Brazilian clients in the United States. As a partner in the Global Commercial Disputes practice at Reed Smith, his clients regularly seek his counsel when they need a seasoned, sophisticated attorney who can assist in their most pressing cross-border commercial disputes – especially those with a particular emphasis on legal matters relevant to Brazil. He leverages his experience across a wide array of industries and throughout several U.S. jurisdictions to craft innovative and successful solutions to his clients’ most complex challenges. Fluent in Portuguese and admitted to practice in both the U.S. and Brazil, Felipe has been recognized by leading publications, including Chambers and Partners, for his more than 20 years of experience representing clients on cross-border matters involving Brazil and other jurisdictions in Latin America. His clients include Fortune 500 companies and some of the largest and most successful Brazilian conglomerates and investors. This experience and understanding from multiple angles and cultures proves extremely valuable to clients when piloting matters in different regions and jurisdictions, which allows him to anticipate and then, avoid, challenges along the way – saving clients valuable time and money. While the majority of Felipe’s work comprises international litigation, including insolvency proceedings such as Chapters 15 and 11, as well as cross-border discovery and applications for Section 1782, he maintains a wealth of experience on the transactional side, as well. Matters include inbound Brazilian investment in the United States, outbound U.S. investment into Brazil, export controls and sanctions advice under U.S. and Brazilian laws, and trade policy developments and government affairs in Brazil.
